2008年10月31日，一位署名“中田聪”的人在usenet上发表了一篇论文，阐述了比特币的应用原理。10天之后，他在开源社区sourceforge.net上发布了一个名为bitcoin的项目，但是之后他便在互联网上彻底消失了。目前该项目由两名前谷歌(微博)工程师维护，但是他们两人声称从未见过中田聪。
On 31 October 2008, a paper by a person named “Kinda's deaf” was published on the Internet explaining the application of Bitcoin. Ten days later, he published a project entitled “Hii14_line”.net, but he disappeared completely on the Internet. The project is being maintained by two former Google (Webbo) engineers, who claimed that they had never seen Nakada.
望月真一就是中田聪吗？

2013年5月20日，尼尔森在YouTube上爆料称，中田聪的真实身份是京都大学数学教授望月真一。望月真一何许人也？尼尔森为何认定他就是中田聪呢？
On May 20, 2013, Nelson announced on YouTube that the true identity of Nakada-san was Shinichi Nakada, a math professor at Kyoto University. Who is he? Why does Nelson think he is Nakada-san?
望月真一，16岁进入普林斯顿大学，22岁读完博士，现在京都大学担任全职教授。
Shinichi Satsuki, who entered Princeton University at the age of 16, completed a Ph.D. at the age of 22, is now a full-time professor at Kyoto University.
尼尔森认为望月真一就是中田聪的理由有三个：
Nelson believes that Shinichi Shinichi is Nakada's deaf for three reasons:
一、望月真一足够聪明，他是能够想出比特币这样复杂的系统的；
I. Satsuki is smart enough to come up with a system as complex as Bitcoin;
二、望月真一不按常理出牌，从不使用常规的学术发表机制，而是独自工作，发表论文后让其他人自行理解；三、望月真一的工作领域包含了比特币的数学算法。
ii. Quizuki did not follow the usual pattern, never used conventional mechanisms of academic publication, but worked alone, and published papers to be understood by others; the fields of work of Quizuki III and Quizumi included bitco’s mathematical algorithms.
实际上，尼尔森的前两个理由比较牵强，因为高智商和特立独行与比特币的发明者并不存在唯一对应关系，这个世界上的高智商和特立独行的人是很多的；只有第三个理由还算比较靠谱，但是也不足以证明望月真一就是中田聪。
In fact, Nelson's first two reasons are more ambitious, because there is no single correspondence between high-intellectual and independent work and the inventors of Bitcoin, and there are many in the world's high-intellectual and unique people; only the third reason is more solid, but it is not enough to prove that the first is Nakada.
至于望月真一是否真是比特币的发明者，还有待进一步的证实。而在那之前，比特币的发明权仍然只能挂在中田聪（Satoshi Nakamoto）的名下。(林靖东)
Whether Shinichi is really the inventor of Bitcoin has yet to be further proven. Until then, Bitcoin’s right to invent remains in the name of Satoshi Nakamoto.
